BELIZE CITY, BELIZE (Aaron Simonsky, Energy Analytics Institute, 27.Jan.2025) — Petrobras achieved all the 2024 production targets that were established in its Strategic Plan 2024-2028+, within a range of ±4%.
Total production of oil and natural gas reached 2.7 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMboe/d) in 2024. Commercial production reached 2.4 MMboe/d, while oil production was 2.2 million barrels per day (MMb/d), Petrobras announced 27 Jan. 2025 in an official statement.
Petrobras set new annual records for its total own and operated production in the pre-salt, with 2.2 MMboe/d and 3.2 MMboe/d, respectively. Production in the pre-salt now represents 81% of Petrobras’ total production.
Noteworthy start-ups at 2 new platforms in 2024
The floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) Maria Quitéria, located in the Jubarte field, in the pre-salt of the Campos Basin, started up in 2024. It was originally slated to startup in 2025.
The FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, in the Mero field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, also started up in 2024 ahead of its 2025 original start date.
In 2024, the maximum oil production capacity of the FPSO Sepetiba platform, in the Mero field, was reached after 8 months of operation.
“The ramp-up of these platforms partially offset the losses resulting from maintenance stoppages and the decline of mature fields, as well as the impact on production due to unscheduled stoppages determined by the ANP and the effects of the Ibama strike,” Petrobras said.
Despite these headwinds, Petrobras still managed to close 2024 within plan.
Start of UPGN I 2024
Petrobras said another highlight of 2024 was the start of commercial operation of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), located at the Boaventura Energy Complex (Itaboraí/RJ), in Nov. 2024. The UPGN has a capacity to process 10.5 million m3/day of gas, through its first module.
