PEMEX controls fire at unit no. 1 of the Salina Cruz refinery

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (By Fidencio Casillas, Editores Latin Petroleum, 4.Sep.2026, Words: 154) — State-owned Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) reported a small fire at 10:30am at the Salina Cruz refinery has been contained and extinguished.

PEMEX said operating procedures were immediately implemented, and the refinery’s firefighting personnel extinguished the flame. 

The incident occurred at the High Vacuum Unit 1 area of ​​Primary Unit 1 of the refinery and originated from a leak in the coil of the H-201-B Heater cell during the plant’s shutdown for scheduled maintenance, PEMEX said on 4 Sep. 2026 in an official statement. 

“The situation was resolved in less than 6 minutes and therefore posed no risk to the operation of the facility or the safety of personnel,” PEMEX said. 

The refinery continues operating, and no injuries were reported.
