(Energy Analytics Institute, Piero Stewart, 13.Apr.2020) — Mexico plans to reduce its oil production by 100,000 barrels per day, according to discussions with members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and OPEC+.

Representatives from OPEC and OPEC+ lobbied for Mexico to cut production by 400,000 b/d, but the country said that wasn’t possible. The US has agreed to take responsibility for assuming the other 300,000 b/d that Mexico is unable to handle, Ecuador’s Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources (MERNNR) announced 13 April 2020 in an official statement, citing ministry head René Ortiz.
