MONTERREY, MEXICO (By Isaac Silvestre, Editores LatinPetroleum, 12.Sep.2026, Words: 172) — Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) downplayed the arrival of hydrocarbons to the Campeche coast.
This, after a spill at the state-owned company’s facilities located 46 nautical miles off the coast of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, La Jornada reported on 12 Sep. 2026.
In a statement, the Mexico City-based company said it expects repairs to a pipeline, from which the leak originated, to be completed in coming days.
PEMEX also said vessels will remain in the area for containment, collection, and mechanical dispersion of hydrocarbons.
It should be noted on 10 Sep. PEMEX personnel from the Cantarell extraction asset reported a pressure drop in a marine crude oil collection pipeline from the Ek-TA, Balam-TA, Balam-A, Balam-TB, and Balam-TA2 platforms. PEMEX immediately depressurized the pipeline and isolated it by closing the safety valves at its ends. Since, the pipeline has remained dry, with no crude oil leaking, according to the daily.
