(Energy Analytics Institute, Aaron Simonsky, 23.May.2019) — The Argentine port of of Bahía Blanca is at present a principal location for consideration of construction of a LNG plant; however, the Chilean option hasn’t been ruled out due to the importance of gas markets in Asia, reported online media Río Negro, citing comments from YPF Vice President Pablo Bizzotto.
“It would be a $5 billion project that would take five years,” said Bizzotto. “Therefore, it’s not a development that a single company can do.”
Today, there are no investments of this amount in Argentina, Bizzotto said.
“In the domestic market there is not enough gas demand, and not even when considering regional gas exports to Chile and Brazil,” Bizzotto said. “That’s why the entirety of the Vaca Muerta gas formation will be more valuable and developed [only] when Argentina has an LNG plant.”
