(Energy Analytics Institute, 28.Dec.2021) — Argentina’s Energy Secretariat authorized six companies — YPF, Total, PAE, Vista, Pampa and Tecpetrol — to carryout gas exports from the Neuquén basin to Chile between January to April 2022.

“More exports means more production, more work, more activity and more foreign exchange income,” Argentina’s Energy Secretariat Darío Martínez said 28 December 2021 in an official agency statement. ”With this round we are fulfilling commitments of 11 million cubic meters per day of exports raised in the Gas.Ar Plan.”

Between 1 January and 30 April the secretariat has authorized exports with peaks of 4.23 million cubic meters per day, in addition to the 6 million firm exports already authorized.

“Gas exports to Chile between October 2021 and April 2022 will generate more than $200 million from foreign exchange income,” Martínez said in the statement.

Results of comprehensive studies conducted by Argentina’s Energy Secretariat determined that the country’s Central West Gas Pipeline is operating at full transport capacity. The pipeline exports gas to San Jerónimo, the node that supplies the thermal power plants of the Litoral. As a result, production from Argentina’s prolific Neuquén basin is unable to supply more gas to the region due to this restriction.

According to the Plan Gas.Ar scheme, excess production remaining after satisfying internal demand can be exported to Chile both through the Pacific Gas Pipeline and Gas Andes, the Energy Secretariat said.
