(Energy Analytics Institute, 28.Dec.2021) — The Chilean government announced six companies were selected in the country’s financing round related to its National Green Hydrogen Strategy.

It’s estimated the awarded projects, with an electrolysis capacity of 388 megawatts, will attract investments of $1bn, Chile’s Energy Secretariat announced 28 Dec. 2021 in an official statement. Details regarding the companies were not revealed.

The projects are expected to produce more than 45,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, which will reduce annual C02 emission by more than 600,000 tons, the ministry said.

“With these green hydrogen projects, by 2025 Chile will be producing fuels, methanol and green explosives, among others,” the ministry said in the statement, citing Chile’s energy and mining minister Juan Carlos Jobet.

The initiatives will be located throughout Chile. Some will be essential to decarbonize areas of high industrial intensity and transform them into green hydrogen development areas, the minister said.
