TotalEnergies reports start-up of new gas consortium Quiluma offshore gas field

ATLANTA, GEORGIA (By Chad Archey, Energy Analytics Institute, 17.Mar.2026, Words: 185) — TotalEnergies started production from the Quiluma field in Angola.

This is the first development of a non-associated gas field in the African country. The gas produced will be a stable and important source of gas supply for the Angola liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant that is delivering LNG to both the European and Asian markets.

At plateau, the project will produce around 330 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of gas, equivalent to approximately 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG, TotalEnergies said on 17 Mar. 2026 in an official statement.

“By ensuring a sustainable long term gas supply for the Angola LNG plant, the project strengthens Angola’s ability to supply LNG to international markets in the long run, including Europe and Asia” stated TotalEnergies senior vice-president Africa, exploration & production Mike Sangster.

The French company holds an 11.8% interest in the Quiluma field with partners Azule Energy (WI 37.4%, operator), Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (WI 31%) and Sonangol E&P (WI 19.8%).
