ExxonMobil’s Payara Celebrates 100 MMbbls of Oil Produced in Just 15 Months

HOUSTON, TEXAS (Pietro D. Pitts, Energy Analytics Institute, 13.Feb.2025) — ExxonMobil Corporation, which operates the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, celebrated 100 million barrels (MMbbls) of oil produced from its Payara project, the company announced 13 Feb. 2025 on social media.

Payara, ExxonMobil’s third development offshore Guyana, started up just 15 months ago. Well, 14 Nov. 2023 to be exact.

The 220,000 barrels per day (b/d) Prosperity floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which is assigned to the Payara development, reached its initial gross production capacity in Jan. 2024.

An ExxonMobil affiliate ExxonMobil Guyana Limited operates Stabroek with a 45% interest. Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. has a 30% interest while CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited has the remaining 25% interest.

Yellowtail startup in 3Q:25 

“Later this year, we look forward to starting up our fourth project, Yellowtail,” ExxonMobil said in its social media post on Instagram.

Yellowtail was sanctioned in Apr. 2022 with a capacity of 250,000 b/d gross, according to ExxonMobil and Hess.

In Jan. 2025, ExxonMobil chairman and CEO Darren W. Woods said Yellowtail would startup sometime in the third-quarter 2025 during the company’s 4Q:24 webcast with analysts.
