Rising maritime rates impacts Venezuelan heavy oil marketing, exports

CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 23.Oct.2026, Words: 130) — The increase in maritime transport rates is complicating the marketing and export of Venezuelan heavy crude oil to international markets.

According to reports from trade operators gathered by Reuters, freight rates for transporting raw materials from the American coast to Asia recently exceeded $80mn per supertanker, a figure significantly higher than the values recorded at the beginning of the year.

This increase in transportation rates directly affects the profitability of Venezuelan exports, which had been rising since the first quarter of the year.
