CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 18.Oct.2026, Words: 168) — Venezuela is moving toward transparency in its fiscal and debt figures after years of opacity, according to Ecoanalítica.
This, with estimates placing total liabilities at $238bn, a significant portion of which corresponds to internal debt between public entities, the consulting firm announced on 18 Oct. 2026 in a post on social media.

“This transparency exercise is a necessary step, but it requires the IMF‘s technical endorsement to lend the process institutional credibility,” the company said.
“A key finding of the sustainability analyses is that if nominal GDP growth exceeds interest accrual, the debt-to-GDP ratio could naturally improve, allowing time for a more orderly restructuring under a legitimate government and a robust macroeconomic framework,” Ecoanalítica said.
