MONTERREY, MEXICO (By Isaac Silvestre, Editores LatinPetroleum, 7.Sep.2026, Words: 287) â Mexicoâs foreign minister Roberto Velasco Ălvarez held a working meeting with his counterpart from the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, during his official visit to that Asian country.Â
During the meeting, Velasco reiterated Mexico’s commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship with China, focused on identifying new opportunities for collaboration and developing joint solutions to common challenges.

To that end, Velasco proposed continuing the mechanism for bilateral political consultations between foreign ministries in order to establish a joint work plan for coming years, Mexicoâs Foreign Ministry announced on 7 Sep. 2026 in an official statement.

Velasco also expressed Mexico’s interest in advancing the bilateral agenda through concrete programs in priority areas such as health, education, science, innovation, the environment, and rural development.

Furthermore, Velasco emphasized that Mexico is a friend of the world and seeks cooperation, dialogue, and understanding with all nations.Â
Velasco highlighted Mexico engages with the world based on trust and both countries share principles such as respect for sovereignty, equality among states, and non-intervention.Â
âWe have historically defended these values, which resonate with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence promoted by China,â Velasco stated.
