BOGOTĂ, COLOMBIA (By Ana Sanches, Editores Latin Petroleum, 3.Oct.2026, Words: 169) â Colombia is selling electric vehicles (EVs) much faster than it is building charging infrastructure, according to El Tiempo.
The most recent data from the National Single Transit Registry (RUNT), as of 21 May 2026, shows Colombia had 77,215 EVs in circulation. At that same time, there were only 520 publicly accessible charging points. That is, one point for every 148 electric vehicles.
Colombia registered 33,928 new EVs between Jan. and Aug. 2026, up 217.8% compared to the same period in 2025, the daily reported on 3 Oct. 2026, citing figures from the National Association for Sustainable Mobility (Andemos).
In Aug. 2026 alone, 4,545 new units were registered, 175.62% more than a year earlier. Importantly, these figures correspond to new registrations during the year and not to the total number of EVs circulating in the country.
