PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 24.Apr.2025) — Colombia’s state-owned Ecopetrol S.A. has initiated a joint plan to determine the best alternative to ensure the continuity of a number of natural gas projects in the Southern Caribbean. This, following Shell‘s decision to withdraw from its offshore assets in said region.
Ecopetrol and Shell were partners in the Col 5, Purple Angel, and Fuerte Sur blocks. Notably, there were gas discoveries at Kronos-1 (2015), Purple Angel 1 (2017), Gorgon 1 and 2 (2017), and Glaucus 1, which were operated by Shell.
