YPF pivots away from onshore liquefaction plants to 100% FLNG for Argentina LNG 3

ATLANTA, GEORGIA (Chad Archey, Energy Analytics Institute, 24.Apr.2025, Words: 246) — Argentina’s state-owned YPF SA has ruled out building an onshore liquefaction plant as part of Argentina LNG 3, and will replace it instead with floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) ships off the coast of Río Negro.

The majority-state-owned company’s original plan for Argentina LNG 3 was to build an onshore liquefaction plant in addition to having FLNGs. But, since the ships are a faster option and more affordable to finance, the company now has an eye on a project that will be 100% FLNG based, Infobae reported on 24 Apr. 2025.
