(Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 2.Jan.2025) — EP PetroEcuador has an eye on Ecuador’s Block 59 where it plans to drill 2 new wells in Vinita field in the first-quarter 2025. The aim there is to maintain and then progressively increase production at the field.

The wells, No. 19 and No. 20, will be drilled from Vinita C platform, EP PetroEcuador announced 2 Jan. 2025 in a social media post. In 2019, Triboilgas initially started a drilling campaign in Vinita in Block 59.

Today, Block 59 is made up of 15 wells. The block’s crude oil is heavy at 11-degrees API. From the field, oil is transported by tankers to the Tipishca plant to be diluted and upgraded to a 15-degree API oil, EP PetroEcuador said.
