Guyana’s president Irfaan Ali warns citizens to remain vigilant amid Venezuelan “arrogance”

PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 14.May.2025, Words: 310) — Guyana’s president Mohamed Irfaan Ali alerted the citizens of his small South American country about the importance of remaining vigilant of Venezuelan military and citizen movements along its borders with Venezuela amid heated discussions around which country owns the long disputed Essequibo region.

“The defense of Guyana is a patriotic responsibility, not an option for patriots, a convenience, or political tool. It is a duty, a national honor, and the highest level of dignity for any citizen. Venezuela’s parade of arrogance and consistent disregard for international law has no place in a democracy or a peaceful region,” the leader said on 14 May 2025 during a speech in Georgetown, Guyana.
