BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA (By Ana Sanches, Editores Latin Petroleum, 1.Oct.2026, Words: 289) — Former National Assembly deputy Ángel Álvarez Gil demanded transparency with the public regarding progress, or lack thereof, in electricity generation.

He also called for a commitment to dates set by ruling party authorities, El Carabobeño reported on 1 Oct. 2026.

Speaking outside the central plant power plant in the Juan José Mora municipality, the lawyer questioned the promise made by representatives of the National Electric Corporation (Corpoelec), who assured that Unit 6 of the thermoelectric plant would be reactivated starting 1 Oct.

Even a recent statement from the national government announced the generator would be incorporated into the Nacimiento Electrical System (SEN) “in the coming days,” adding 600 megawatts, without specifying a date.

“First, we were told that things would improve in August, then in October. There have already been national spokespeople talking about the last quarter, while the public is in agony, desperate. That is why we demand transparency from all entities. The people of Carabobo need clear information,” the daily reported, citing Álvarez Gil.

The former congressman rejected the latest announcement regarding electricity policy by the state governor, Rafael Lacava.

“The only thing that was formalized was the regulation of power outages by segment, by block,” Álvarez Gil said. “None of this is established in any article of our Constitution. Our Constitution is very clear: citizens have the right to quality public services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
