ATLANTA, GEORGIA (Chad Archey, Energy Analytics Institute, 15.Jun.2025, Words: 475) — A group of UK and Canada-based partners including TD Securities Inc. and OEMs will launch a CA$4bn partnership to support the zero emissions transition of the Brampton Transit bus fleet.
The effort is the first phase of a 10-year electrification framework, serving Toronto’s largest suburb and supporting the transition to a zero-emission public transit system.
This initiative highlights the power of public and private partnerships and will bring CA$1bn foreign investment to Canada, further strengthening UK-Canadian business ties, global fleet electrification and battery storage specialist Zenobē, founded in 2017, said on 15 Jun. 2025 in an official statement.
“This historic investment marks a turning point for Brampton and for public transit across Canada,” Brampton mayor, Patrick Brown said in the statement.

“By transitioning to a fully electric bus fleet, we’re not only reducing emissions — we’re creating jobs, improving air quality, and building a cleaner, healthier future for our residents. Brampton is proud to lead one of North America’s largest zero-emission transit projects, and we are grateful to our partners in the UK and Canada for helping make this bold vision a reality,” Brown said.
The Brampton project is 1 of the largest zero-emission bus (ZEB) programs in North America, offering substantial environmental and social benefits. ZEBs reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improve local air quality and decrease noise pollution — all of which contribute to healthier, cleaner communities, said Zenobē, which has dual headquarters in London, and Brampton.
The partnership aims to bring 1,000 electric buses to the roads and replace the city’s existing diesel vehicles. It will initially support current routes and ridership numbers of over 40 million passengers annually, with the first phase of the project’s infrastructure is expected to go live in early 2027.
As part of this partnership, Brampton will procure electric buses from Canadian suppliers, with planning and design, software, supply chain relationships and capital markets expertise provided by the Zenobē team.
“This landmark partnership between Zenobē and the City of Brampton is a powerful example of how UK-Canada collaboration can deliver real-world solutions to global challenges. It showcases the UK’s leadership in clean transport and infrastructure, while creating skilled jobs and driving innovation on both sides of the Atlantic,” UK consul-general to Ontario Fouzia Younis said in the statement.
The initiative also includes comprehensive technical experience and expertise from the UK and dedicated electrical and civil engineering teams on the ground in Brampton.
