MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (Fidencio Casillas, Energy Analytics Institute, 20.Feb.2025) — Under Plan Mexico, president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said her government was pursuing a fair energy policy to benefit the country’s citizens, including those in Durango.
“There are communities that do not have access to electricity in Durango and as part of an initiative, CFE director Emilia Calleja and Mexico’s Energy Secretariat Luz Elena González Escobar have plans and projects to address the issues,” Sheinbaum said 20 Feb. 2025 during her mañanera or daily media briefing.
To-date, 211 works have been carried out by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) benefiting 10,752 people in 2,701 homes with an investment of MXN200mn Mexican pesos. 2,110 homes now have solar panels in Durango and 591 are directly connected to the CFE network, according to data from the Energy Secretariat (Sener).
Additionally, a collaboration agreement between the CFE and the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI) aims to provide care to 583 localities, with an investment of MXN421mn pesos to electrify 59 localities; promote 586 projects, of which 147 are network extensions.
In regards to promises to limit further rises in gasoline prices at petrol stations, Sheinbaum said her administration hoped to soon reach a voluntary agreement with the gas stations, so that they can moderate the amount of pesos they earn for each liter that they sell.
