YPF Reports Record One Day Fractures

(Energy Analytics Institute, Aaron Simonsky, 18.Mar.2020) — Argentina’s state oil company YPF announced positive results in regards its development of the country’s Vaca Muerta unconventional resources located in the Neuquén Basin.

YPF carried out 12 fracture stages in one day, which constitutes a new milestone for the company’s unconventional operations and for the Neuquén Basin, the company announced 18 March 2020 in an official statement.

The well was in the La Amarga Chica Block that the company operates in partnership with Petronas, and which is in the heart of YPF’s unconventional development.

During the operations approximately 3,000 tons of sand and 17.5 cubic meters of fluid were used to achieve the fractures. The company recorded a time between fracture stages of 8 minutes, while the pump time was an average of 1.5 hours per fracture stage. In total, the complete operation spanned 19 hours, YPF said.
