CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 19.Oct.2026, Words: 160) — Active and retired workers of state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) gathered in Zulia state to demand improved working conditions.
They occupied the gates of the Miranda Building, the state-owned company’s headquarters in Maracaibo, and docks on the eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo, where they declared a work stoppage, Efecto Cocuyo reported on 19 Oct. 2026.
The protesters denounced receiving salaries of barely $5 a week, insufficient to meet the cost of living.
They demanded transparency and payment of the Pension Fund (with debts they claim date back years), as well as the reinstatement of the healthcare system, which they say was eliminated, leaving workers, retirees, and their families without medical assistance.
They also pointed to irregularities in the management of the retirement fund’s resources.
