USMCA possibility advances: president Sheinbaum says

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (By Fidencio Casillas, Editores Latin Petroleum, 18.Sep.2026, Words: 189) — The possibility of an agreement between Mexico and the government of Donald Trump is progressing, according to Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

This, following a telephone call on 16 Sep. 2026 with her US counterpart.

“We are making progress on trade issues. We cannot yet provide a solution, information, or a formal announcement,” Sheinbaum said on 18 Sep. during her morning presser.

“What I can tell you is that we are moving forward; the possibility of an agreement between Mexico and the United States is progressing well, and the call was very good,” Sheinbaum said. 

Sheinbaum said she was accompanied during the phone conversation by the Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, and the secretary of economy Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon.

“We reached some agreements, but until the final agreement is in place, we cannot announce it. It was a very good call,” she emphasized at the morning press conference,” Sheinbaum said.
