Woodside Energy donates $20,000 to Mexican Red Cross

HOUSTON, TEXAS (By Pietro D. Pitts, Energy Analytics Institute, 19.Sep.2025, Words: 368) — Australia’s Woodside Energy announced a donation of MX$400,000 ($20,000) to the Mexican Red Cross to support individuals and families affected by severe flooding in northern Veracruz and southern Tamaulipas.

Intense rains in Poza Rica, Veracruz have translated into emergency flooding situations which have impacted many Mexican communities in recent weeks.

Woodside said the donation will be used to provide humanitarian aid including food, hygiene and cleaning kits, medical support, care packages, and search and rescue operations led by the Mexican Red Cross.

“This is a tragic event for the communities of the Huasteca region and our thoughts are with those affected,” Woodside executive vice president and COO international Daniel Kalms said on 17 Oct. 2025 in an official statement.

“Woodside is committed to supporting communities wherever we are active,” Kalms said. “After learning of the flooding and speaking with the governors of Tamaulipas and Veracruz, we felt it was important to assist the Mexican Red Cross in their relief efforts. We hope this donation helps the affected communities recover and rebuild.”

“We are deeply grateful for Woodside Energy’s generosity in supporting the communities affected by the devastating floods in northern Veracruz and southern Tamaulipas,” Mexican Red Cross national director of resource mobilization Ana Laura Robles Quijano was quoted by Woodside as saying on 17 Oct. 2025.
“Their contribution will help make a meaningful difference for the families impacted.”

Trion project moving forward

Woodside continues to move forward with its Trion project offshore Mexico.

First steel was cut for the Trion floating production unit (FPU) in Nov. 2024. The Trion FPU will have an oil production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day (b/d), and connect to a 950,000 barrel capacity floating storage and offloading vessel.

First oil from Trion is slated to flow in 2028, according to Woodside.
