—Argentina: The gov’t of president Javier Milei is starting the privatization process for Argentina’s national highways and routes.

—Ecuador: Ecuador’s EP PetroEcuador says normal petrol dispatches continue from its Riobamba terminal to provinces in the center of the country as well as Chimborazo and Bolívar.

—Guyana: Overall real gross domestic product (GDP) reportedly grew 43.6% in 2024, while the non-oil economy expanded by 13.1% in 2024, according to the DPI.

—Mexico: Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was not invited to attend the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump on 20 Jan. 2025. However, Venezuela’s opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, who ran against Venezuela’s leader Nicolás Maduro in a still disputed 28 Jul. 2024 presidential election, and Argentina’s president Javier Milei have been invited. 

—Mexico: Mexico continues to prepare for massive deportations of its citizens and potentially others from the US to Mexico as promised by US president-elect Donald Trump.

—Mexico: Mexico is preparing secondary laws for the energy sector.

—Venezuela: Venezuela’s leader Nicolás Maduro says there will be no Juan Guiadó 2.0, referring to US efforts to back Juan Guiadó in his claim to the Venezuela presidency (after the 2018 presidential election), and renewed US efforts to back opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia in similar claims after another controversial Venezuelan presidential election on 28 Jul. 2024.

—USA: Between 120mn-175mn people in the US expected to experience temperatures below 0°C this wk, potentially causing transit traffic jams (air and auto) and accidents, while there is potential that many people in the southern states like Texas could lose power.

—USA: A return to the “Drill baby drill” mode is expected to start on or after 20 Jan. 2025 after the second inauguration of Donald Trump as US president.
