MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (Fidencio Casillas, Energy Analytics Institute, 12.Jan.2025) — Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, speaking from El Zócalo in Mexico City, said that Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) would guarantee 2 things: production of 1.8 million barrels per day of liquids and condensates as well as the functionality of its 8 refineries.

Sheinbaum revealed the details during a speech on 12 Jan. 2025 from the Mexican capital celebrating her first 100 days in office as the Latin American country’s president.

Maintaining production at around 1.8 MMb/d is a key component of Pemex’ business plan during Sheinbaum’s ‘sexenio,’ or 6 year presidential term.

Pemex’ oil and condensate production with partners averaged 1.673 MMb/d in Nov. 2024, the Mexico City-based energy giant announced in Nov. 2024 in a statement on its website.
