CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 23.Oct.2026, Words: 300) — 4 months after the devastating dual earthquakes that shook Venezuela, the situation has entered a less visible phase, marked by the aftermath of the damage to infrastructure and the emotional consequences.
Jesús “Txuo” RodrÃguez Villarroel, a Jesuit priest and director of the Unidos en la Misión Foundation, told the EFE news agency the disaster goes beyond the immediate physical losses, noting that in addition to the more than 6,500 dead, nearly 29,000 people remain missing, more than 200,000 were injured, and at least 20,000 lost their homes.
One of the most alarming aspects is the disruption to the education of some 200,000 children and adolescents following the damage suffered by nearly 400 schools, according to the news agency.
Faced with this situation, RodrÃguez Villarroel urged the international community not to forget the tragedy once it fades from the headlines and to channel support to the organizations working in the affected areas.
