MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (By Fidencio Casillas, Editores Latin Petroleum, 24.Sep.2026, Words: 154) — For the second time this year, Amigo LNG, a project that envisions the installation of infrastructure to liquefy natural gas and export it from Guaymas to Asian markets, has been halted.
This is despite a promise from Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in Feb. 2026 the permits for the project would be ready in no more than a month, Petróleo y Energía reported on 24 Sep. 2026.
A judge in Sonora granted a permanent injunction blocking any environmental authorization and the start of construction while the legal challenge filed by the organization Nuestro Futuro A.C. is resolved. This, even with the existence of an environmental impact authorization issued by the Agency for Safety, Energy and the Environment (ASEA).
