(Energy Analytics Institute, 19.Dec.2024) — Argentina’s national government announced the start-up of the Mercedes Compressor Plant, a key infrastructure that will increase the transportation capacity of the Mercedes-Cardales Gas Pipeline by 6 million cubic meters per day (MMcm/d), allowing the pipeline to reach a total transportation capacity of 15 MMcm/d.
In addition, the start-up of the plant will allow Argentina to displace imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which will result in an import savings of up to $2.5mn per day, Argentina’s Energy Secretariat said 19 Dec. 2024 in an official statement.
The Mercedes Compressor Plant complements the Mercedes-Cardales Gas Pipeline, which was inaugurated during the previous presidential administration. This project reinforces the national government’s commitment to promoting the energy sector as an engine of economic growth, the secretariat said.
