CFE and PEMEX prepare for arrival of Simon, Luz Elena says

MONTERREY, MEXICO (By Isaac Silvestre, Editores Latin Petroleum, 10.Oct.2026, Words: 251) — Brigades from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and PEMEX are prepared to attend any eventuality related to the arrival hurricane Simón.

This, in coordination with the agencies of the government of Mexico.

Simón has intensified to a Category 3 storm, according to the National Meteorological Service. 

“Given the intensification of hurricane Simón, by instructions from Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum [Pardo], the energy sector maintains coordination permanent with the authorities of Civil Protection,” SENER head Luz Elena Gonzalez Escobar announced on 10 Oct. 2026 in an post on social media.

“It is essential to stay informed through official channels, follow the recommendations from [the National Civil Protection Coordination] and take shelter in safe areas. Prevention and coordination are essential to protect the population,” Luz Elena said. 

Heavy to torrential rains are expected in western and southern Mexico, particularly in Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, and Nayarit. 

“The DN-III-E and Navy plans are active in their preventative phase; brigades from the CFE, the Interconnected System of Communications and Transportation (SICT), the National Water Commission (Conagua), and PEMEX are also prepared,” Sheinbaum reiterated in a post via her official social media account.

“We urge the public to stay informed through official channels. It is important to take shelter and, in vulnerable areas, evacuate to the designated temporary shelters,” Sheinbaum said.
