MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (By Fidencio Casillas, Energy Analytics Institute, 30.Jun.2026, Words: 148) — The administration of US president Donald Trump is preparing to formally declare it will not extend the validity period of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to 16 years, as proposed by Mexico’s economy secretary Marcelo Ebrard, according to information published by Reuters.
If the US, Mexico, and Canada fail to reach an agreement on the proposed modifications to the treaty, the USMCA will remain under a period of annual reviews for the next decade, until it formally expires on 1 Jul. 2036.
