BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA (By Ana Sanches, Energy Analytics Institute, 21.May.2026, Words: 282) — Argentina’s Undersecretariat of Hydrocarbons, under the Ministry of Energy of the Province of Neuquén, participated a methane (CH₄) emissions monitoring campaign in 124 inactive and abandoned wells distributed across 64 hydrocarbon areas.
Detection of methane in these wells allows for the evaluation of their mechanical integrity and serves as an oversight tool for the provincial government regarding operators’ obligations.
