PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 23.Mar.2025) — Ecuador’s deputy minister of hydrocarbons Guillermo Ferreira completed an intense work schedule in Esmeraldas, where he verified the progress of the contingency plan implemented following the rupture of the Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline System (SOTE) on 13 Mar. 2025.
During his tour, Ferreira inspected the areas affected by the oil spill and supervised the containment and recovery efforts, Ecuador’s Ministry of Energy and Mines said on 23 Mar. 2025 in an official statement.
At this time, the volume of oil at the main containment point, in Cube, on the Caple River, is minimal, Ferreira said.
