Mexico to Invest $23.4bn to Boost Energy Generation by 22,000 MW by 2030

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (Fidencio Casillas, Energy Analytics Institute, 12.Jan.2025) — Mexico looks to make investments of $23.4bn during 2024-2030 to boost its energy generation capacity by 22,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030.

The investments envisioned for Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) include: $12.3bn to build new power plants, $7.5bn to reinforce the transmission network, and $3.6bn for the distribution network, Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said 12 Jan. 2025 during her presentation of Plan Mexico.

Sheinbaum said investments in generation and transmission networks aim to achieve up to 45% clean energy, while investment of MXN2.07bn Mexican pesos are slated for Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) during her 6-year tenure or sexenio, with an annual average of MXN345.5bn pesos.
