(NGC, 28.Feb.2022) — The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) wishes to correct a false assertion made by journalist Curtis Williams in the Sunday Guardian story ‘BHP flops: Ruby oil field fails to shine’, dated 27 February 2022.
The article incorrectly stated that NGC President, Mark Loquan, predicted ‘a net increase of oil and gas production’ as a result of the start of production from BHP’s Block 3(a) Ruby development project in May 2021.
A release issued by NGC on 5 May 2021 stated ‘Trinidad and Tobago can expect to see a boost in its supply of crude oil and further stability in its natural gas supply as the Block 3(a) Ruby development project begins production ahead of schedule.’ In the same release Loquan is quoted as saying ‘We look forward to more positive news from the field and expect associated gas production which would contribute to further stability in supply.’
The prediction of a net increase in natural gas production that was attributed to Mr. Loquan is completely false. The Trinidad Guardian is encouraged to correct this error in the interest of honest and responsible journalism.
