(Energy Analytics Institute, Piero Stewart, 25.Dec.2019) — EP PetroEcuador initiated start-up activities on 25 December 2019 at the Crude Unit 2 (R2) of the Shushufindi Refinery, located in the province of Sucumbíos, after 48 days of scheduled maintenance work began.
Work over the past two months has cost the company approximately $2,257,393.48, EP Petroecuador announced 25 Dec. in an official statement.
R2 operates by atmospheric distillation and processes around 10,000 barrels per day of oil and obtains base gasoline (heavy gasoline plus light gasoline), Diesel 1 and 2, Jet Fuel and reduced crude, EP PetroEcuador said.
The Shushufindi Refinery supplies fuels to the provinces of Sucumbíos, Orellana and Napo. R2 is an integral part of the two crude processing units of the refining center that together with the gas plant, make up the Shushufindi Industrial Complex.
During the scheduled shutdown the following activities were conducted: calibration of measuring instruments; inspection of equipment for the maintenance of vessels; as well as inspection of heat exchangers, the crude furnace, air coolers, process pumps, electrical equipment, the cooling tower; as well as correction of steam leaks.
The scheduled maintenance at R2 is carried out every three years in order to maintain the operational capacity of the plant and recover the mechanical integrity of its equipment, EP PetroEcuador said.
