(Energy Analytics Institute, Aaron Simonsky, 21.Aug.2019) — Argentina and Chile signed an agreement for the export of natural gas from the former to the latter.

The deal — under the framework of Resolution 417/19 from 26 July (which established new guidelines for regarding authorization of natural gas exports) — through provision 168/2019 authorizes uninterruptible exports under firm conditions of Argentine gas to neighboring Chile, Argentina’s Energy Secretariat announced 21 August 2019 in an official statement.

The agreement is for a maximum export volume of 10 million cubic meters per day (MMcm/d) between 15 September 2019 and 15 May 2020.

Just last year, in September 2018, Argentina restarted gas exports to Chile under the interruptible modality, after abrupt suspension of shipments in 2007.

Argentina’s production growth has allowed the country’s exports to grow as well. During the first half of 2019, Argentina exported an average 5.9 MMcm/d of gas, including shipments to Chile, Brazil and Uruguay, the Energy Secretariat said.
