Sheinbaum said Trump also requested access to state-owned PetrĂłleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), El Financiero reported on 19 Oct. 2026.Â
However, Sheinbaum denied these matters are conditions for the signing or ratification of the trade agreement between Mexico, the US, and Canada, also known as the USMCA.
“Yes, that topic has been touched upon, but there hasn’t been any insistence; it’s simply been clarified this isn’t possible in Mexico,” Sheinbaum reply during her morning presser when questioned about an alleged US request to receive PEMEX assets or to increase natural gas purchases in exchange for the trade agreement.
