Venezuela continues to reject 1899 Paris arbitral award

CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 3.Oct.2026, Words: 174) — The Venezuela government reaffirmed before the international community its “historic, firm, and irrevocable position of rejection of the illegitimate and fraudulent arbitral award of Paris of 1899.”

“127 years after that artifice, tainted by nullity from its inception, Venezuela ratifies its historical rights over the Essequibo region and reaffirms the full validity of the 1966 Geneva agreement as the legally valid instrument for resolving the territorial dispute through a practical, satisfactory, and mutually acceptable settlement,” Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry said on 3 Oct. 2026 in an official statement.

“Venezuela reiterates its invitation to direct dialogue with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, as the only way to establish solid and stable foundations for good neighborliness, cooperation, shared economic development, and the promotion of investment in the region,” the ministry said.

“The Sun of Venezuela rises in the Essequibo!,” the ministry concluded.
