Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 gets non-FTA export authorization from US DOE

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA (Steve Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 29.May.2025, Words: 473) — The US Department of Energy (DOE) issued a permit to Sempra subsidiary Sempra Infrastructure for the Port Arthur LNG (PALNG) Phase 2 development project. This will allow for export of up to 13.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of US-produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to non-free trade agreement (FTA) countries.

The non-FTA permit, which is the first issued since the completion of the DOE’s most recent public interest study, is a major regulatory milestone for the proposed PALNG Phase 2 project, which could be a part of helping to narrow the US trade deficit, support the energy security goals of US allies across the globe and strengthen the US economy, Sempra announced on 29 May 2025 in an official statement.
