HOUSTON, TEXAS (Pietro D. Pitts, Energy Analytics Institute, 25.Mar.2025) — Argentina’s state-owned YPF SA has embarked on an aggressive divestment plan that will see it exit mature fields as it pivots fast but not furiously to focus on opportunities in the prolific Vaca Muerta shale play.
When the dust settles, YPF will emerge as a Vaca Muerta pure-play involved in the export of oil, piped-gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG). This, as the company in particular, under the leadership of CEO and talisman Horacio Marín, and Argentina in general set their sights on achieving oil and gas exports of around $30bn starting in 2031.
