Venezuela eyes transfer of gold reserves from Bank of England

CARACAS, VENEZUELA (By Piero Stewart, Editores Latin Petroleum, 18.Sep.2026, Words: 131) — The Venezuelan government and the opposition lawmakers are close to reaching an agreement to transfer gold reserves from the Bank of England to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

With this agreement, the government of interim president Delcy Rodríguez would regain control of the gold, but would not be able to sell the reserves immediately, according to a report published on 18 Sep. 2026 by the Financial Times

However, the government could use this gold as collateral to secure loans to cover needs such as reconstruction following the dual earthquake of 24 Jun. 2026.
