PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (By Piero Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 29.May.2025, Words: 729) — Officials from Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI), headed by Roodal Moonilal and Ernesto Kesar, meet with executives from bpTT, Perenco and Woodside Energy to discuss issues around the 3 companies commitments and plans.
At separate meetings on 27 May 2025 held at the MEEI’ International Waterfront Complex, Head Office, Port-of-Spain, Moonilal highlighted the energy sector vision of the twin-island country as it aims for the re-emergence of Trinidad as the energy capital of the region in addition to working with stakeholders to increase production of the country’s hydrocarbon resources, the MEEI said on 29 May 2025 in separate statements.

MEEI officials received updates from bpTT executives on its operations and recognized the strategies taken by the company to increase the competitiveness of existing operations while pursuing future developments.
bpTT acknowledged its longstanding presence as a major player in Trinidad’s oil and gas sector and emphasized the importance of these operations to the company’s global portfolio.
bpTT is committed to continuing to pursue opportunities in Trinidad, to further develop the hydrocarbon resources of the country as well as the exploration of opportunities in the sustainable energy space, the MEEI said.

MEEI and bpTT discussed and agreed on several areas of immediate collaboration that would be progressed to enhance the contribution of the company to the energy sector. Both MEEI ministers gave their commitment to continue to work with bpTT to “ensure maximized production of our natural resources for the benefit of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago,” the MEEI said.

Perenco
MEEI officials received updates from Perenco executives on its operations in Trinidad and commended the French company for work done particularly in extending the life of operating assets and for its expertise in unlocking potential from mature and marginal fields.
Perenco emphasized the importance of its Trinidad operations to the company’s global portfolio and committed to continued focus and investment in the country.
“Perenco’s recent agreement with Woodside Energy with respect to the acquisition of the Greater Angostura assets as well as ongoing work in the TSP (Teak Samaan Poui) Block as well as the CAFI (Cashima, Amherstia, Flamboyant, Immortelle and Parang) fields demonstrate the company’s commitment to pursuit and production of hydrocarbon resources in Trinidad and Tobago,” the MEEI said.

Woodside Energy
MEEI officials received updates from Woodside executives on its operations in Trinidad and recognized the critical role of the Australian company in maximizing production of the country’s hydrocarbon resources particularly the work currently being pursued in the deep-water area.
Woodside highlighted the importance of its Trinidad operations to the company’s global portfolio.
“While the company has taken the decision to divest its assets in the Greater Angostura area, Woodside remains committed to pursuing opportunities in Trinidad and Tobago as demonstrated by the ongoing work in the Calypso field with its joint venture partner, bpTT,” the MEEI said.
Moonilal commended Woodside for its work and reiterated government’s interest in the pursuit of projects such as Calypso as a priority.
