BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA (Steve Stewart, Energy Analytics Institute, 24.Mar.2025) — US president Donald Trump announced secondary tariffs to be imposed on Venezuela.
Trump said on 24 Mar. 2025 in a post on X that the tariff would take effect as of 2 Apr. 2025, which he referred to as “liberation day in America.”
The announcement will impact Venezuelan neighbors Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago, both of which had been looking to tap into Venezuela’s massive gas resources offshore. But, other countries will be impacted as well including Spain, Italy and India, among others.
