Trinidad Inks Gas Deal with Venezuela

(Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, 22.Dec.2023) — Historic and unprecedented energy deals for Trinidad and Tobago that provide us with positive outlooks for our future, the Honorable Stuart R. Young, MP, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister said 22 Dec. 2023 in a post on Instagram.

The minister said the acquisition of the 30 year licence to explore, produce and export natural gas from the Venezuelan Dragon gas field to Trinidad and Tobago which will benefit the people of Venezuela and the people of Trinidad and Tobago for decades to come and the restructuring of Atlantic LNG which resulted in better shareholding and better revenue for Trinidad and Tobago as well as access for third party gas for the first time which opens up new possibilities and opportunities for additional investments in gas exploration and production.

“I am grateful and humbled by the privilege to have led the negotiations of both of these complex, complicated, challenging and technical negotiations on behalf of the people of Trinidad and Tobago and pleased to have been able to deliver both successfully,” Young said.

“I thank all of those who worked hard to make these deals a reality including, but not limited to, the professional staff at the Ministry of Energy, NGC, our expert advisors, the staff at our embassy in Caracas Venezuela, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Shell, bp and all those who supported me and believed in me to take these from concepts and ideas to reality,” Young said.

“Trinidad and Tobago’s future is brighter and offers much more hope and positive potential as a direct result of these two historic and monumental deals both of which are unprecedented,” the minister said
