(Energy Analytics Institute, 10.Jun.2020) — Bolivia’s state oil and gas entity Yacimientos Petrolifos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) has boosted natural gas exports as of 1 June 2020 as requested by Integración Energética Argentina S.A. (IEASA) to 18 million cubic meters per day (MMcm/d) from 16 million cubic meters per day while gradually increasing gas exports to Brazil’s state oil company Petrobras.

Natural gas exports stipulated by IEASA (formerly ENARSA) during May, the month in which the winter period of the contract begins, increased to 16 MMcm/d in May from 11 MMcm/d in April, corresponding to amounts committed in the contract. For June, the committed volumes are 18 MMcm/d, YPFB announced 10 June in an official statement.

In terms commercialization of Bolivia’s gas with Petrobras, it’s expected that export volumes will gradually increase until reaching 14 MMcm/d, as established in the eighth addendum signed in early March.

The deal between YPFB and Petrobras establishes a commitment for the Brazilian company to receive between 14 MMcm/d and up to 20 MMcm/d. The agreement is valid for approximately four to six years, depending on the volumes delivered and would “generate significant economic income aimed at consolidating the development and stability of Bolivia’s economy,” YPFB said in the statement.

Bolivia’s natural gas production was around 40 MMcm/d in early June, volumes which are below the levels estimated under normal conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, YPFB concluded.
