Bolivia Says Cochabamba Ammonia-Urea Production To Rise In 2019

(Energy Analytics Institute, Ian Silverman, 22.Apr.2019) — Bolivia expects the Cochabamba ammonia-urea petrochemical complex – with capacity to produce more than 700,000 tons per year (t/y) – will produce 520,000 t/y in 2019 (74% of capacity), up from 390,000 t/y in 2018 (56% of capacity) currently.

As a result, revenues are expected to rise to between $200 million to $250 million in 2019 compared to $80 million to $100 million in 2018, reported online media La Razón, citing Bolivia’s Vice Minister of Industrialization, Marketing, Transportation and Storage of Hydrocarbons Humberto Salinas.

Bolivia’s New Challenge Is Producing NPK Fertilizer

(Energy Analytics Institute, Ian Silverman, 22.Apr.2019) — The next industrialization challenge that Bolivia will confront relates to producing NPK fertilizer – one of the most effective used in agriculture – from urea (nitrate), potassium and phosphate, reported online media La Razón on 22 April 2019, citing Bolivia’s Vice Minister of Industrialization, Marketing, Transportation and Storage of Hydrocarbons Humberto Salinas.

Bolivia already produces nitrogen from the urea that is generated at the Bulo Bulo Plant in Cochabamba, and also produces potassium from the Potassium Chloride Plant in the Salar de Uyuni (Potosí), Salinas said.
