Trinidad Gov’t And BPTT Discuss Issues Relating To Galeota Based Contractors

(MEEI, 27.Mar.2019) — The Honourable Stuart Young Minister of National Security, Minister of Communications and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, and Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries met with Ms. Claire Fitzpatrick, Regional President, BP Trinidad and Tobago (BPTT) and Mrs. Giselle Thompson, Vice President, Corporate Operations, BPTT on 27 March 2019, to discuss the unfolding situation regarding Galeota based contractors and related issues in the Mayaro/ Guayaguayare community.

The focus of the meeting was for Government to obtain a clear understanding of the issues involved in order to properly evaluate the situation in relation to all parties. As such, BPTT outlined in detail what the current issues are from the company’s perspective.

This present Administration is particularly concerned about local content in the energy sector, including the engagement of community based contracting services and the overall impact Energy companies have in their fence-line communities.

The Government plans to meet with the other stakeholders involved and hopes to bring an amicable settlement to this matter, in the interest of all parties and the Mayaro/ Guayaguayare community
