Pemex Urges Citizens To Avoid Panic Shopping For Fuel

Instant Max AI Immediate Frontier

(Pemex 9.Jan.2019) — The Mexican Government, through Petróleos Mexicanos, calls for the public to avoid panic shopping, as this could generate a fuel shortage.

Once more, it reminds the public that supply to affected states is guaranteed, as there is enough fuel in stock at the Pemex Storage and Distribution Terminals.

We urge the general public to resist speculation and ask for all Mexicans to come together and act calmly and prudently; please disregard fake news or unfounded rumors and wait for fuel supply to return to normal.

In Mexico City and the metropolitan area, an unexpected increase in purchases was recorded. This affects efforts to return supply to normal and may create further supply problems at service stations and traffic in the surrounding areas.

It is important to remember that, as part of the Joint Response Plan for Strategic Pemex Facilities to fight the so-called “huachicol” (fuel theft), the pipelines used by organized crime to extract fuel have been shut down, are to be opened as soon as they are secured, so that further criminal activities causing damages to the country’s finances can be prevented.

To date, Petróleos Mexicanos has made important progress in the operation of the alternative distribution system using tanker trucks to supply fuel in a timely and appropriate manner to the states affected by compromised shipments.

Pemex urges the general public to continue reporting fuel theft to the toll free number 01800 228 9660 and to the email vigilante@pemex.com
