Mexico confident USTR tariff proposal will be modified

MONTERREY, MEXICO (By Isaac Silvestre, Energy Analytics Institute, 2.Jun.2026, Words: 299) — On 2 Jun. 2026, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released a proposal to impose additional tariffs on several countries as part of its Section 301 investigation into countries importing goods produced with forced labor.

The proposed measure stems from an investigation that indicates a supposed lack of effective enforcement and prohibition by 60 countries — including the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom (UK), Canada, and Mexico — to prevent the importation of goods produced with forced labor in third countries.
